The designer story
Aihika is the Sanskrit word to signify 'earthly, local', the adage of Aihika's brand; Source Local, Produce local.
They are profoundly inspired by India's cultural aesthetics which is always vividly reflected in their work and the process they follow. Believing in 'Fashion for Earth', Aihika works with natural textiles which are biodegradable and can be effectively recycled.
“Cultures with meaning unknown, ignorance is what really shown, What we thought we had, is gone, may not be… What was once a way of life, may still be… What was lost may return in the same way.” The intangible aesthetics of saree being unstitched- thus ‘pure’ is the key inspiration of this collection where this six yards of grace has been looked at in an unconventional manner. Unstitched cloth has been a part of India’s traditional repertoire and due to its purity considered for ceremonial use. Each panel is made on the loom with handspun yarn and every yarn is hand-knotted to finish the garment.
